ניו יורק היא ללא ספק העיר האהובה עלי בעולם.
מספר פעמים כבר יצא לי לתהות מה יש בעיר הזאת שגורם לי לאהוב אותה כל כך ולחזור אליה שוב ושוב (ושוב).
התשובה היא קודם כל בבנאלי - יש בה הכל: אמנות, אופנה, אוכל, ארכיטקטורה, מוסיקה. כמעט כל דבר שקורה קורה קודם כל שם. אבל מעבר לכל העושר הזה, יש בעיר הזאת משהו שפשוט גורם לך להרגיש בבית. אולי זה הקלות בהתמצאות (כמה גאוני זה למספר את הרחובות ולוודא שילכו בעיקר בקווים ישרים) או אולי העובדה שכל מי שישב לידך בסאבווי - היספאני, אסייתי, או אפריקאי הוא בעת ובעונה אחת זר ומקומי בדיוק כמוך. אבל מה שבטוח - אין עוד מקום כזה בעולם.
בניו יורק יש כל כך הרבה מה לגלות ולראות. לאורך השנים אספתי המון טיפים למקומות המיוחדים שגיליתי (וגילו לי) בעיר הזו והרשימה הועברה במייל לכל מה שנסע. החלטתי להפוך אותה לפוסט מסודר ושימושי במיוחד, שמאגד את הטיפים הכי שווים שלי למקומות שאני אוהבת לחזור אליהם כל פעם מחדש. אזהרה: לא תמצאו כאן אף מילה על פסל החירות וטיימס סקוור.
No doubt, New York is my favorite city in the world.
Many times I've wondered what is so special about this city, that keeps me coming back over and over again.
I think the answer is first of of all in the obvious - in New York there is a lot of everything: art, fashion, food, architecture, music. Almost everything that happens happens there. But above all this, I think there is something about NYC that just makes you feel at home. Maybe it's the easy navigation (how genial is it to keep your streets numbered and in a nice grid) or maybe the fact that each person sitting next to you on the Subway is as local and foreign as yourself. One thing I know for sure - there is no other place like it in the world.
In NYC there is so much to discover. Along the years I have collected many tips for things to see and do in the city and this list was passed by email on to every person who visited the city. Now, the list has transformed into a detailed, photographed post with all my best recommendations for the places I love coming back to. Small warning though: you will not find a word about the Statue of Liberty or Times Square.

מקום טוב ומרכזי להתחיל בו את השיטוט בעיר הוא יוניון סקוור. הכיכר הנעימה מהווה מקום מנוחה עבור רבים מהאנשים שעובדים וגרים באיזור והיא מוקפת בחנויות ומסעדות. בסופי השבוע גם מתקיים במקום שוק איכרים נחמד.
אם תעלו מעט למעלה על רחוב Broadway (עד פינת E19th) תגיעו לאחת מחנויות העיצוב המעניינות בעיר -
ABC carpet and home המכילה 6 קומות של ריהוט, פרטי טקסטיל ועיצוב לבית המיובאים מכל העולם. בקומה התחתונה במבנה נמצאות המסעדות ABC Kitchen ואחותה הלטינית ABC cocina המגישות אוכל מעולה באווירה מעוצבת.
Union Square
A good, central place to start your trip is Union Square. The square is a nice place to sit down and rest for the people living and working in the area and is surrounded by restaurants and shops. On the weekend there is also a nice farmers' market.
If you walk up from the square on Broadway (until the corner of 19th st) you will find one of the city's most interesting design shops - abc carpet and home - a 6 leveled complex of furniture, textile and design objects from all over the world. On the First level you will also find the restaurants ABC kitchen and her latin sister ABC cocina, both serving great food in a designed atmosphere. ![]() |

Hill County Chickenמסעדה שנפתחה לאחרונה ומגישה עוף מטוגן, עוגות פאי ושלל מטעמים דרומיים, אבל מצטיינת בעיקר בעיצוב מהמם בסגנון שנות החמישים הכולל שולחנות פורמייקה, כסאות ותאורה אותנטיים. לאחר בדיקה, המסקנה היא שאני מעדיפה את העוף שלי בKFC המעוצבת הרבה פחות. אבל חובבי סגנון הרטרו חייבים לעצמם ביקור, ולו רק בגלל העיצוב.

Republic המגישה בעיקר מנות נודלס מסוגים שונים ומעוצבת בסגנון מאוד עכשווי עם מוטיבים בהשראת סין הקומוניסטית.
If you go further up on Broadway, until 25th st., you will arrive at Hill County Chicken, a newly opened restaurant serving fast food fried chicken, pies and other southern goodies, but mostly has an amazing 50's retro design. After checking it out I decided I prefer my fried chicken at KFC, but if you are a fan of retro decor this is definitely a place you need to go see.
If you go back to Union Square, a good place to have lunch is Republic, which serves noodle dished in a modern ambiance with design inspired by communist China. ![]() |

But if you want to really get connected with the local vibe, I recommend going into the big Whole Foods branch in the square, picking up a nice lunch and sitting on their second floor, with a panoramic view of the square and all the artists, protestors and free advice/hug givers who fill it regularly.
נוליטה - Nolita
השכונה החמודה הנקראת נוליטה (north of little Italy), הנמצאת ממש בצמוד לסוהו,
היא ללא ספק השכונה האהובה עלי לשיטוט בעיר.
הרחובות בהם מומלץ להסתובב הם Lafayette, Mulberry, Mott ו Elizabeth, בקטע שבין Houston בצפון ל Kenmare בדרום. רחובות השכונה זרועים בבוטיקים קטנים ומקסימים של מעצבים עצמאיים, גלריות ומסעדות שכיף לשבת בהן.
Nolita
The small neighborhood of Nolita (north of Little Italy), just west of Soho, is my favorite of them all. The streets I recommend checking out are Lafayette, Mulberry, Mott and Elizabeth in the part that is south of Houston and north of Kenmare. The neighborhood's small streets are filled with small boutiques of independent labels and designers, galleries and restaurants with a local vibe.

I was extremely impressed by the office and paper goods shop McNally Jacksonstore on Mulberry, a small well-designed boutique offering a fantastically curated collection of items.

In the culinary field, Nolita is the home of some of my favorite spots.
My first choice is Cafe Habana on the corner of Prince and Elizabeth. It's a simple and crowded Cuban joint serving food that could mostly be described as Mexican. If you go there (and you should!) don't pass on their signature dish - grilled Mexican corn with cheese and Chilly. Just to clarify how serious I am about this one - you can pass on many other recommendations but the grilled corn is a must. If the place is full you can go around the corner to their take-away branch and eat your corn on the benches outside. ![]() |

For a more American option go to Soho Park burgers on the corner of Prince and Lafayette, and try their Zucchini fries with your burger, in the small yard.
For an upscale option I recommend the Michelin starred Public restaurant, serving original and interesting food with noticeable Asian inspirations. The place is quite elegant but the atmosphere is young and urban. Reservations are recommended. 210 Elizabeth. SoHo

SoHo
Nolita's famous neighbor is Soho. So famous that the Soho part of Broadway st. feels like a touristic shopping mall. Therefore I prefer strolling in the parallel streets - Mercer, Greene,Wooster, W. broadway and Thompson between Houston and Grand. You will find many interesting designer shops such as Chloe, Acne, Isabel Marant, Phillip Lim and many others. Don't miss the amazing shop of Designer Jonathan Adler on 47 Greene st. אם במקרה אתם חובבי קעקועים, בדומה לבעלי היקר, אני ממליצה לכם על ביקור בWooster st. Social Club, סטודיו מרהיב לקעקועים בו צולמה סדרת הריאליטי NY ink. גם אם לא תתחדשו בקעקוע מידיהם של המקעקעים המוכשרים שעובדים שבמקום, תוכלו להינות מהעיצוב האורבני היפיפה.
If by any chance you are tattoo fans (like my dear husband) I recommend visiting Wooster st. Social Club an amazing tattoo studio in which the reality show NY ink was shot. Even if you will not leave with a new tattoo, you will enjoy the beautiful urban design. לא רחוק משם, על רחוב West Broadway נמצא סניף של Anthropologie, חנות גדולה ומלאה בביגוד ופריטים שונים לבית בסגנון בוהו שיק אקלקטי ושובה לב. זו אחת הדוגמאות לרשת גדולה המצליחה ליצור בכל אחת מחנויותיה אווירה של בוטיק עם אופי ייחודי, הבא לידי ביטוי בעיצוב החנויות עצמן וגם בחלונות הראווה היצירתיים.
Not far from there, on West Broadway, you will find a branch of Anthropologie, a huge store filled with the brand's signature boho-chic clothing, accessories and home decor. This is one of the good examples of a big chain which manages to create a unique atmosphere in each of it's shops.

ואם חוזרים לרחוב ברודווי עצמו, יש בקרבת הצומת שלו עם רחוב גראנד שתי חנויות שחבל לפספס: Muji - סניף של המותג היפני המציע שלל אביזרים לבית, לטיפוח למשרד ובכלל המעוצבים כולם ברוח המינימליזם ו-Pearl River Mart, חנות גדולה המציעה גם היא שלל מוצרים מהמזרח - שמשיות, ביגוד, מצורי מזון וכלי קרמיקה, אך להבדיל ממוג'י, מינמליזם לא תמצאו שם.
If you go back to Broadway, make sure to visit Muji, a japanese brand offering minimalist items of all sorts and Pearl River Mart, also an Asian store - but unlike Muji, this one offers parasols, lanterns, clothing and groceries from Asia, none to be described as minimalist. Both are near the corner of Grand st.

If you are practicing any form of art, go down on Broadway until you meet Canal st. In the building with the red entrance you will find Pearl Paint, with 5 or 6 floors of any sort of art supplies you can dream of.
Paper and scrapbooking lovers will be happy to hear that even though the amazing Kate's Paperie on Spring has closed, a new branch of Paper Source just opened on 83 Spring.

Meatpacking District and West Village
One of the city's most developed areas in the past years is the Meatpacking District. It's a small area between 14th st. and Gansevoort, between Hudson and 11th Ave. The very hip area is full of designer shops such as Diane Von Furstenberg and Alexander Mcqueen. If you like glasses as much as I do, check out the Warby Parker store on 819 Washington st. (with more branches around town) for trendy sun and prescription frames at reasonable prices (95-195$). The Meatpacking District also offers great places to eat, such as the well-known Pastis, a french bistro serving the beautiful local crowd.

If you go down on Hudson, you will meet the beginning of Bleeker st., the main street of the West Village. It is a central street, but it's small and nice to walk through, with many designer stores such as Mark Jacobs and the legendary Magnolia Bakery, a must stop to refill you energy with some sugar and carbs.

אחד הפרוייקטים המוצלחים שקמו בניו יורק לאחרונה הוא פרוייקט ההיי ליין, טיילת עילית העוברת ממערב לשדרה ה-10 בקטע שבין הרחובות 13 עד 30. בטיילת, שהוקמה מתוך מחשבה סביבתית ותוך שימוש בצמחיה הקיימת ובאלמנטים מתוך מסילת הרכבת שהיתה במקום, ישנם שבילי הליכה נעימים, כסאות נוח וספסלים למנוחה ודוכני מזון מוצלחים. זוהי הזדמנות להעביר שעה-שעתיים בפעילות שאינה כוללת שופינג, אך אם תרצו תוכלו תמיד לחתוך לרחובות הסמוכים במספר נקודות ירידה שונות לאורך המסלול.
Chelsea and the High Line
One of the city's most interesting new projects is the High Line, an elevated boardwalk stretching west of 10th Ave. Between 13th-30th streets. The trail was constructed using elements from the rail track which was there originally and the plants that already existed in the area. You will find nice walking paths with benches to rest and food stands. It's an excellent way to pass a couple of hours without shopping, but if you want to get off along the way you can do so by using several exit points that will take you down to the street.

מתחת לטיילת, בעיקר ברחובות 22-26 בקטע שבין השדרה ה-10 ל-11 נמצא מתחם הגלריות של צ'לסי. הבניינים התעשייתיים מאוכלסים כמעט כולם בגלריות, מה שהופך את השיטוט באיזור למעין ביקור במוזיאון פתוח וחינמי של אמנם עכשווית מעניינת. מומלץ מאוד לכל חובב אמנות שמבקר בעיר להגיע לשם, רק שימו לב שבימי שני רוב הגלריות סגורות.
בין הגלריות, על רחוב 22, המתגלה מעין מנהרה משונה באמצע הרחוב. זוהי הכניסה לחנות של מותג האופנה Comme De Garcons והיא בהחלט שווה ביקור.
Under the High Line, especially on 22-26th streets, between 10-11th Ave will find Chelsea's gallery district. The industrial lofts on these streets are almost entirely occupied by galleries, which makes exploring this area feel like a visit to a big open museum. It is a great option for any art fan who visits the city. Just note that on Monday most galleries are closed.
Between the galleries, on 22nd st. you will discover a strange tunnel - this is actually the entrance to the Comme De Garcons shop which is well worth a visit.

Also in Chelsea, and not far from the galleries area, are two great options for your sweet tooth:

אבל אם אתם בצ'לסי ומחפשים מקום לארוחה קצת פחות מתוקה, אני ממליצה לנסות את מסעדת
Cafeteriaעל השדרה השביעית בפינת רחוב 17, הפתוחה 24 שעות ומציעה שירות ידידותי באווירה מעוצבת ואוכל טעים, כמו למשל mac &; cheese בשלל טעמים (רזים לא נצא מפה).
But if you are in Chelsea and looking for a meal with less sugar, a good option is Cafeteria on 7th Ave. and 17th street, open 24/7 and serving great American comport food such as different flavored mac & cheese. השדרה החמישית
האמת, שהשדרה החמישית עמוסת התיירים היא לא ממש כוס התה שלי, אבל גם עליה יש כמה נקודות שחבל לפספס.
בריאנט פארק, על רחוב 42 והשדרה הוא מקום נחמד לנוח ולשתות כוס קפה. בחורף מפעילים במקום זירת החלקה על הקרח ובחודשים נובמבר-דצמבר פועל במקום יריד מתנות לחגים עם חנויות פופ אפ שונות.
על רחוב 53 נמצא מוזיאון ה- MoMA, אחד המוזיאונים המוצלחים ביותר לאמנות מודרנית (אם לא ה-) ומומלץ בהחלט להקדיש לו כמה שעות טובות כדי להצליח להינות מכל האגפים והתערוכות השונות. ביום שישי אחה"צ ניתן להכנס חינם בתמורה לתרומה עפ"י בחירה חופשית. לכן ישנם תורים ארוכים ועומס גדול שמקשה להינות מהיצירות והמלצתי היא דווקא לשלם קצת יותר אבל להגיע בזמן רגוע יותר. למומה יש שלוחה נוספת בקווינס בשם
PS1, מוזיאון קטן יותר אך מעולה לאמנות עכשווית, הממוקם במבנה ששימש בעבר כבית ספר.
5th Avenue
The touristic 5th Ave. isn't really my cup of tea, but even here there are some spots that shouldn't be missed.
Bryant Park, on 42nd and 5th Ave. is a nice place to rest and grab a cup of coffee. In the winter there is an ice skating ring and in the months before Christmas there are holiday shops set up.
On 53rd street you will find MoMA, one of the best modern art museums in the world which is a must. On Friday afternoons the entrance is free with a donation, but the lines are long and the museum is packed during that time, so I prefer paying a bit more and enjoying my visit to the full extent. The MoMA has a smaller, but fantastic branch in Queens named PS1.

The Modernשנחשבת לאחת המסעדות הטובות והיוקרתיות בעיר. היא לא זולה ומצריכה לרוב הזמנה מראש ועמידה בקוד לבוש, אבל אם תרצו להינות מהווי המקום ומהאוכל תוכלו להסתפק בדרינק ונשנוש בלאונג'של המסעדה שהאווירה בו פחות פורמלית.
בחנות המוזיאון תוכלו למצוא בין השאר מבחר גדול מאוד של ספרי אמנות ועיצוב ובחנות העיצוב מעבר לכביש תוכלו לרכוש או סתם להתרשם ממבחר גדול של פריטים וגימיקים מעוצבים, חלקם גם של מעצבים ישראלים.
In the MoMA building you will also find the fine restaurant The Modern, considered to be one of the city's best. It is quite expensive and requires reservations and a dress code, but if you want to enjoy the food and the place in a more easygoing ambiance, you can try their lounge for a drink and some small dishes. In the museum store you can find a broad selection of art and design books and in the design shop across the road you will encounter great design objects and gifts for sale.

למעלה יותר וקצת הצידה מהשדרה, על רחוב 57 מס' 20 נמצאת החנות של המותג
MacKenzie-Childsובה תמצאו מספר קומות של ריהוט ופרטי עיצוב לבית בסגנון אלקטי וקצת משוגע, שמזכיר במידה מסויימת את מסיבת התה של אליסה בארץ הפלאות. גם אם לא תצאו משם עם סרוויס, שווה לבקר ולהתרשם.
קצת לפני הסנטרל פארק נמצא הכלבו היוקרתי Bergdorf Goodman. אם תצליחו להתגבר על אי הנעימות והחשש ממבטי המוכרות - הכנסו לעשות סיבוב בין הפריטים היקרים שמעטים אלה שיכולים להרשות לעצמם. אם לא, הסתפקו בהצצה בחלונות הראווה שלרוב מעוצבים בצורה מושקעת ויצרתית במיוחד.
MacKenzie-Childs, on 20 57th street, is a big home decor store selling hand made items with a unique and a bit wacky design (which reminds me of Alice in Wonderland). Even if you won't end up shopping for tea pots, it is a place worth visiting.
A little bit before Central Park you will find the luxurious Bergdorf Goodman. If you can overcome feeling uncomfortable, go in to see all the items which only few can afford. If not, usually even just their windows are worth checking out.

הפארק הוא אחד המקומות המיוחדים בעיר והניגוד בין ההמולה הרועשת והצפיפות של העיר המקיפה אותו לבין השקט והמרחבים הירוקים של הפארק הוא די מדהים. לכן כדאי להקדיש לפארק כמה שעות ולטייל בו בנחת, ברגל או באופניים שניתן להשכיר במקומות שונים (בקולומבוס סירקל למשל). בחודשי הקיץ מתקיימות בפארק הופעות בחינם וכדאי מאוד להתעדכן.
Central Park
The park is one of the city's best spots, and the contrast between the hustle and bustle of the city and the serenity of the park is quite amazing. Therefore, it is worth spending a few hours exploring it by foot or bicycle, which can be rented in several spots (such as Columbus Circle). During the summer there are free performances (Summer Stage) and it's a good idea to keep updated.
מחוץ למנהטן
אחד הדברים שמאפיינים את ניו יורק בשנים האחרונות הוא שגבולות העניין בעיר נמתחים בהדרגה הרבה מעבר למנהטן. מנהטן הפכה ליקרה וממוסדת מידי עבור צעירים ויוצרים ואלה עברו לשכונותיה השונות של ברוקלין והפכו אותה מרובע מנומנם למקום הכי נכון ועדכני. לכן, אם אתם מבקרים בניו יורק בימים אלה ומוותרים על גיחה או שתיים לברוקלין, אתם מפסידים הרבה.
אחת השכונות שהתפתחו ביותר בשנים האחרונות היא וויליאמסבורג והיא נחשבת במידה מסויימת למעוז ההיפסטרים המקומי, על אף שגם היא הופכת בהדרגה לממוסחרת וממוסדת. כדי להגיע לאיזור המעניין בשכונה מומלץ לרדת בתחנת הסאבווי Bedford Ave על קו L וללכת במורד בדפורד עד רחוב 2 וחזרה. תפגשו חנויות קטנות ומסעדות נחמדות באווירה שונה מזו של מנהטן.
Outside of Manhattan
One of the main characteristics of NYC in the last few years is that the points of interest gradually stretch further out of Manhattan. Manhattan has become too expensive and established for young people and creators, who have moved out to a few sleepy Brooklyn neighborhoods and turned them into the most trendy spots. So on your trip to NY definitely plan a visit or two to Brooklyn.
Williamsburg is one of the neighborhoods that got a big boost in the past few years and it is recognized as the Hipster's refuge, although it is also gradually becoming more commercialized and established. To get to the more interesting past of the neighborhood I recommend getting off at Bedford Ave Subway station on the L line, and then walk down Bedford up to 2nd St. and then back. You'll find small shops and nice restaurants, with a different atmosphere than Manhattan.

בוויליאמסבורג תמצאו גם סניפים של שתי חנויות יד שניה מוצלחות במיוחד הפועלות בשיטה שלפיה אנשים מביאים אליהם בגדים חדשים יחסית שהם כבר לא לובשים ומקבלים קרדיט לקניה בחנות או כסף. הבגדים מתקבלים למכירה במצב מעולה ורובם של מותגים שווים כמו French Connection, Club Monaco ואחרים. זו דרך לא רעה בכלל להתחדש בפריטים שווים במצב מצויין, בכרבע או פחות ממחירם המקורי. גם הפשפוש לא מתיש בכלל, היות והבגדים מסודרים לפי צבעים או מידות והם נבחרים בקפידה ולכן רובם אטרקטיביים.

In Williamsburg you'll also find branches of 2 recommended second hand shop, to which you can bring in clothes that's in good shape but that you are tired of wearing, and you then receive store credit or cash. The clothes are in really good shape and most are from brands such as Club Monaco, French Connection etc. This is a great way to update your wardrobe with new pieces in good shape, for about a quarter or even less than the price of the original. Browsing is not a tiring mission, as the clothes are displayed by color or size and they are carefully selected, therefore most pieces are attractive.

DUMBO
השכונה הקטנה הזו, שמשמעות שמה הוא ראשי תיבות של District Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass ושמה מעיד על מיקומה - מתחת לגשרים המחברים את מנהטן וברוקלין. היא אמנם נמצאת בברוקלין אבל מרוחקת מרחק תחנת סאבווי אחת ממנהטן ובהחלט שווה קפיצה. קודם כל, היא מספקת נוף מדהים מהטיילת היפה שלה לקו הרקיע של מנהטן וגשר ברוקלין. אבל מלבד זה, יש בה מסעדות מוצלחות, חנויות יפות ומעניינות (כמו
West Elm ב- 75 Front street שתגרום לכם לקנות צלחות אפילו שכבר אין לכם מקום במזוודה) ויש שיאמרו שאפילו רק בשביל הפיצה המפורסמת של
גרימלדי ב- 1 Front st שווה להגיע לשם. מידי שנה מתקיים בדמבו פסטיבל אמנות גדול (השנה הוא יתקיים בסוף ספטמבר) כך שכדאי להתעדכן ולהגיע.
DUMBO
This little neighborhood's name is the abbreviation for District Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, and it's name tells you where it's located - under the bridges that connect Manhattan and Brooklyn. Although it's in Brooklyn, it is only 1 subway stop from Manhattan and definitely worth a visit. First and foremost, it offers a spectacular view of Manhattan's skyline and Brooklyn Bridge, which can be viewed from its beautiful promenade. But on top of that, it offers great restaurants, pretty shops (like West Elm at 75 Front st., which will make you want to buy plates even if you don't have any room left in your suitcase) and some say that it's worth getting there just for the pizza at Grimaldi's on 1 Front st. Every year the neighborhood hosts a big art festival (this year it will be at the end of Sept.) so it's worth checking for updates and paying a visit. שווקי סוף שבוע

לטעמי, השווקים המוצלחים ביותר הם השווקים בברוקלין, שוק אוכל בשם Samorgasburg ושוק פשפשים בשם Brooklyn Fleas, השייכים לאותה הנהלה. בשוק הפשפשים תוכלו למצוא דברים יפים במיוחד ולא ערימות ג'אנק כמו בשווקים אחרים. בשוק האוכל ישנם עשרות דוכנים של מטעמים מקוריים יותר ופחות ולא תדעו למה להשאיר מקום בבטן. בנוסף, שווקי האוכל מתקיימים בסמיכות לנהר ואפשר לשבת ולאכול מול הנוף היפה של העיר.
Weekend Markets
On Sat. and Sun. many different markets pop up in NYC - farmers' markets, food markets, flea markets etc. I think the best markets can be found in Brooklyn - a food market named Samorgasburg and a flea market named Brooklyn Fleas, both run by the same management. In the flea market you'll find really nice things and not the usual junk you can find in other markets. In the food market you'll find dozens of more and less original foods and you won't know how to leave room in your tummy for all of them.
The food markets are held near the river and you can sit and enjoy the beautiful view of the city.
